The Highland Fling cocktail is a warming Scottish winter drink, rich with orchard fruit, gentle spice and citrus. This cosy serve combines Birch and Elderflower Wild Scottish Liqueur with bramble and apple for a smooth, aromatic cocktail that is perfect for cold evenings or festive gatherings.
Ingredients
- 150ml apple juice
- 50ml Birch and Elderflower Wild Scottish Liqueur
- 50ml bramble juice
- 25ml lemon juice
- 1 small cinnamon stick
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg, ground or freshly grated
- 1 orange wedge, for the rim
- Powdered sugar, for the rim
- Orange slice, to garnish
Method
- Add the Birch and Elderflower liqueur, bramble juice, apple juice, lemon juice, cinnamon stick and nutmeg to a saucepan.
- Warm gently over a low heat, stirring occasionally. Do not let the mixture boil.
- While the cocktail warms, run an orange wedge lightly around the rim of a serving glass and dip the rim in powdered sugar.
- Once the cocktail is warmed through and the flavours have infused, carefully pour into the prepared glass.
- Garnish with an orange slice and serve immediately while hot.
Tips
Keeping the heat low preserves the delicate elderflower notes and prevents the alcohol from evaporating. If you prefer a stronger spice profile, allow the cinnamon stick to infuse for an extra minute before serving.
The combination of Scottish liqueur, bramble and warming spice gives this cocktail a distinctly Highland character. Fruity, comforting and perfect for autumn and winter.
