The Highland Fling cocktail is a warming Scottish winter drink, rich with orchard fruit, gentle spice and citrus. This cosy serve combines Birch and Elderflower Wild Scottish Liqueur with bramble and apple for a smooth, aromatic cocktail that is perfect for cold evenings or festive gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 150ml apple juice
  • 50ml Birch and Elderflower Wild Scottish Liqueur
  • 50ml bramble juice
  • 25ml lemon juice
  • 1 small cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg, ground or freshly grated
  • 1 orange wedge, for the rim
  • Powdered sugar, for the rim
  • Orange slice, to garnish

Method

  1. Add the Birch and Elderflower liqueur, bramble juice, apple juice, lemon juice, cinnamon stick and nutmeg to a saucepan.
  2. Warm gently over a low heat, stirring occasionally. Do not let the mixture boil.
  3. While the cocktail warms, run an orange wedge lightly around the rim of a serving glass and dip the rim in powdered sugar.
  4. Once the cocktail is warmed through and the flavours have infused, carefully pour into the prepared glass.
  5. Garnish with an orange slice and serve immediately while hot.

Tips

Keeping the heat low preserves the delicate elderflower notes and prevents the alcohol from evaporating. If you prefer a stronger spice profile, allow the cinnamon stick to infuse for an extra minute before serving.

The combination of Scottish liqueur, bramble and warming spice gives this cocktail a distinctly Highland character. Fruity, comforting and perfect for autumn and winter.
